The Sunstar Foundation for Oral Health World Dental Hygienists Award was created to recognize and encourage dental hygienists and students of dental hygiene who have made a great contribution to the community of dentistry, their profession, or to the general public. The award-winners are selected by a Screening Committee. The Award is presented every three years. The award ceremony will place at the 17th IFDH (International Federation of Dental Hygienists) Symposium on July 19th, 2007 in Toronto, Canada.　Each award-winner will receive a commemorative trophy as well as a cash prize.

The Sunstar Foundation 2006 World Perio Research Award ceremony was held on June 30, 2006 at Europerio 5. A commemorative trophy and cash prize was presented to the winners.

In honor of its 25th anniversary, the Sunstar Foundation for Oral Health Promotion hosted the award ceremony for the winners of the Sunstar Foundation World Perio Research Award competition for papers on the "relationship between periodontal disease and systemic health" on June 21, 2003 in Berlin, Germany.
