The Story Behind the Winning Research Paper

Dr. Madeline Kosho’s research explores the connection between periodontitis and cardiovascular disease (CVD).

Her team implemented a chair-side blood finger stick test to measure important blood values. By doing this during a routine periodontal consultation, they found that many patients with periodontitis also showed signs of cardiovascular and metabolic risk.

This innovative study highlights the potential of oral healthcare professionals to play a unique role in the detection of underlying diseases, such as CVD, but also diabetes.
