As someone who came to the United States from Mexico, my passion for dental hygiene was shaped early by witnessing the challenges many communities face in accessing care. This recognition reflects my commitment to empowering students and my dedication to ensuring greater access to oral health for those most in need. At its core, this work is about uplifting others by helping them feel seen and valued, opening doors to opportunity, and improving lives. I am grateful to serve, to teach, and to make a meaningful difference every day.”
About Elmer
Dr. Elmer E. González, MBA, PhD, RDH, CDA, is a dedicated educator, leader, and advocate whose career is rooted in a deep passion for transforming lives through dental hygiene education and public health. As a Professor and Department Chair at New Mexico State University Doña Ana Community College, he is committed to empowering students to realize their potential and become compassionate, skilled professionals who advance oral health in their communities and beyond.
Driven by a belief that education and service are inseparable, Dr. González has led impactful service-learning initiatives that expand access to care for underserved populations. Through programs such as “Happy Smiles” and numerous community and international outreach efforts, he has helped bring preventive oral health services and education to children, families, and vulnerable communities across the United States and around the world.
His work reflects a steadfast commitment to student success, health equity, and the power of human connection. By integrating innovation, compassion, and leadership, Dr. González inspires future dental hygienists to not only excel clinically, but to serve with purpose, lead with integrity, and make a lasting difference in the lives of others.
